LA - English UL - http://discoverylib.upm.edu.my/discovery/Record/190415 AB - This study was conducted to study sterilization methods and the effects of hormones on growth of Hylocereus undatus. The objective of the study is to obtain the optimum combination of NAA and BAP for root and shoot formation for H. undatus. Young shoot segments were sterilized according to three sterilization methods and excised buds were subjected to 17 sterilization methods. Sterilants used included ethanol, Clorox and anti-contaminant agents such as Streptomycin, PPM and Kathon. Each treatment had 15 replications. Observations were made for 19 weeks. There was low percentage of non-contaminated culture. Only one treatment achieved 66.67% non-contamination by immersing explants into 70% ethanol followed by 70%, 40% and 10% Clorox with a few drops of Tween 20 for 10 min each in sequence. This method resulted in significant difference in percentage of contamination to other treatments tested. Meanwhile, young shoot segments initiated root and shoot formation. CN - FP 2004 49 ER -
