It was carried out at Post harvest Laboratory, Depatment of Crop Science, Faculty of Agriculture, Universiti Putra Malaysia. The fruits coated with chitosansolution at concentrations of 0, 0.25, 0.5 and 0.75% were stored in the chilled cabinet average with temperature 12°C and relative humidity (RH) 90-95% for six weeks. The experimental design was a complete randomized design (CRD). The fruits coated with 0.75% of the chitosan solution gave its effect (p<0.05) on the fruit's firmness. The percentage of the weight loss decreases with the increased in concentrations of chitosan. Chitosan also significantly reduced the loss of green colour or disappearance of chlorophyll thus delayed the fruits ripening. Although there were no significant effect of treatment on fruit's solid soluble concentration, but from the result it can be concluded that chitosan coating is able to extend the storage life of Sekaki papaya and prevent the fruits from decay caused by fungal attack.
