LA - English UL - http://discoverylib.upm.edu.my/discovery/Record/511055 AB - Acetes japonicus is one of the economically important organisms for the local fishery in coastal waters of Malacca and as well as in others Asian countries. The reproductive biology (sex ratio, maturation and spawning) of A. japonicus was determined by the analysis of samples collected from Klebang Besar, coastal waters of Malacca from April 2006 to March 2007. The overall yearly sex ratio was found to be 1 : 1.54 (male : female) with females predominance. The mean monthly GSI in females showing relatively higher GSI during May indicated that most of the females were in a mature stage. For the gonadal development stage of A. japonicus, the mature and near to spawn stages (II & III) was occured in every month except in September showed the most spawning occured around the year. There were two peaks breeding season (percentage of females with mature ovaries greater than 50%) in a year that was from May to July and from December to March. No females with spent ovaries stage were observed during the study period. First maturity in females was reached within the 17-18 mm total length (TL) class. CN - FS 2007 91 ER -
