The beneficial effects of PGPR on plant growth and yield affects many mechanisms and one of it is nitrogen fixation. This study was highlighted on the morphological study to isolate endophytic bacteria from Neptunia oleracea rhizosphere and screen their ability to fix nitrogen. This study also was conducted to assess the plant growth promoting activity of the isolated rhizobacterial strains under laboratory conditions. All of the five bacterial strains isolated from N. oleracea rhizosphere showed prolific growth and were identified as nitrogen – fixing bacteria. The effect of bacterial inoculation on mung bean plant growth was also observed for seven days to assess its growth-promoting activity under laboratory conditions. The experiment was arranged in a completely randomized design (CRD) with six treatments including control ( uninoculated) with three replicates. Each replicate of the treaments 25 seeds of mung bean was germinated using the paper towel method and harvested at seven days after planting. The parameters observed were root length, shoot length, seed germination, seed vigour, root dry weight and shoot dry weight. The bacterial isolates showed the differences with control in all growth parameters. The N.O-D inoculation possessed the most significant growth inall parameters observed as compared to control. Therefore, the locally isolated PGPR strain N.O-D is possibly the most significantly beneficial as nitrogen fixing rhizobacterial strain in fixing nitrogen and promoting plant growth.
