Duration of any breastfeeding is defined as length of time for any breastfeeding includes the starting of breastfeeding, period of complementary food and until weaning. A total of 60 mothers who attended the selected breastfeeding support centre and had a child aged 12 to 36 months regardless of breastfeeding status were participated in this study. The information on the mothers' socio-demographic, obstetric background, nutritional status of the mothers, breastfeeding practices and environmental characteristics were obtained by using pre-tested questionnaires. The mothers need to recall the pre-pregnancy body weight. The current body weight, height and waist circumference were measured. More than half of mothers (61.7%) were discontinued breastfeeding and 38.3% of mothers still breastfeed their child. The prevalence of exclusive breastfeeding for six months was 51.7%. The prevalence of overweight and obese among mothers was 36.4%. The mean duration of any breastfeeding at the first 12 to 36 months after post-parturn was 15.0 ± 7.6 months with 31.7% were still breastfeed up to 24 months of age. Mother's age (r=0.288, p=0.026), duration of exclusive breastfeeding(r=0.408, p=0.001) and age of introduction to formula milk (r=0.550, p=0.000) were positively correlated with duration of any breastfeeding. In conclusion, the older the mothers, the longer the duration of exclusive breastfeeding and the older the child's age of introduction to formula milk were related with longer duration of any Breastfeeding. |
