%0 Thesis %0 Book %A Nor Falahiah Zainuddin. %D 2017 %G English %T Perception on reflective practice among undergraduate nursing students in Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, Universiti Putra Malaysia %X Introduction: Reflective practice is a process of making sense of events, situations and actions that occur in the workplace or clinical work. It enables nurses to organize the personal and professional impact of addressing their patients' fundamental health and well-being needs on a daily basis. The capability of reflective practice is important in delivering and improving ethical and holistic nursing care. Furthermore, reflection is used as one of teaching strategies, but there is still a lack of consensus among lecturers and researchers about the specific nature of reflective practice. Objectives: The general objective was to determine the perception on reflective practice among undergraduate nursing students in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS), University Putra Malaysia (UPM). Methodology: A cross-sectional study design with simple random sampling method was used. The data were collected from Mac until April 2017 using self-administered questionnaire. All data were analyzed using Statistical Analysis Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) Version 22.0. Descriptive analysis was used to analyze frequency and percentage. Chi-square test was used to determine the association between categorical variables with p value ≤ 0.05 was considered as statistically significant. Ethical approval from Jawatankuasa Etika Universiti Putra Malaysia (JKEUPM), and Dean of FMHS were obtained prior to commencement of the study. Results: A total of 8 6 respondents were involved in this study with response rate 100%. The mean age of respondents was 21 years old (± 0.5 SD). Overall, 97.7% (n=84) of the respondents reported to have positive perceptions on reflective practice. Approximately 70% (n=60) of the respondents disagreed that the guidelines on reflective practice assessment given to students arc clear and do not require further clarification. Besides. there was no significantly association between level of perception with clinical performance and perception on reflective practice. Conclusion: The findings showed positive levels or perception on reflective practice among undergraduate nursing students FMHS, UPM. Hence, reflective practice should be continued in teaching and learning in curriculum with the improved and agreed guideline in turn to produce knowledgeable and skillful nursing graduates.
