LA - English YR - 2016 UL - http://discoverylib.upm.edu.my/discovery/Record/571866 AB - INTRODUCTION:The knowledge about the HIV/AIDS is the basic thing in order to prevent further spread of HIV/AIDS.Knowledge regarding the HIV/AIDS transmission, methods of prevention and effect on body is very important since effective preventive measure can be achieved from high level of HIV/AIDS knowledge among the population. OBJECTIVE: The main objective is to determine level of knowledge among nursing and dietetic students in Universiti Putra Malaysia on HIV/AIDS. METHODOLOGY: A cross-sectional study design and simple random sampling method was used. A self-administered questionnaire was used as a study instrument to collect the data. The data was analyzed using SPSS version 20.0. Descriptive statistics was used to describe the sample. Chi square test was used to determine association between dependent and independent variables. A p value ≤ 0.05 was considered as statically significant in this study. RESULT: A total of 154 students involved in the study and majority of the students are female and aged between 18-21 years old with 86.4% and 56.5% respectively. It is found that 87.0% from the students had high level of HIV/AIDS knowledge. The most source of information they get was from the internet(56.6%). Finding indicated a significant association between level of knowledge and aged group (p=0.030) and year of study (p=0.007). CONCLUSION: This study found most of students had high level of HIV/AIDS knowledge. But misconceptions still occur-among them especially on the methods of prevention. It is very important to raise the knowledge and awareness among young adult about the disease in order to prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS. Establishing and conducting several programs like a campaign, talk or forum and implementation of HIV/AIDS education in university curriculum could be help.
