TY - THES TY - BOOK T1 - Potential of utilizing spent empty fruit bunch for Volvariella volvacea mushroom production at Hutan Simpan Ayer Hitam A1 - Nurul Husna Ahmad Tarmizi, LA - English UL - http://discoverylib.upm.edu.my/discovery/Record/589051 AB - Volvariella volvacea is high-temperature mushroom, fast growing, grown largely in tropical and subtropical regions, and utilize easy cultivation technique. This study was conducted at Hutan Simpan Ayer Hitam, Puchong, Selangor. The empty fruit bunch (EFB) was used as substrate for V.volvaceamushroom cultivation. The objectives of this study is to determine feasibility of using spent oil palm EFB for V.volvacea mushroom production and to examine the chemical changes in EFB and spent EFB substrate due to Volvariella volvacea mushroom cultivation. Mushroom cultivation was done in 2 phases; first phase using EFB as substrate and second phase using the spent EFB. Harvesting of V.volvacea mushroom took 30 days for both cultivation cycles, and total and weight of mushroom were recorded and analyzed. Based on analysis, chemical changes such as moisture content, cellulose, hemicellulose and ash content in EFB and spent EFB did not significantly affect mushroom production. However, increase in lignin and extractive contents significantly reduced the mushroom production. CN - FH 2020 40 ER -
