AB  - This article describes the dry matter production of five grass species and one variety of Leucaena leucocephala grown on peat soil at Pontian, Johore. The average dry matter yield of Brachiaria decumbens, Pennisetum purpureum, Panicum maximum, Setaria sphacelata cv. Kazungula and Brachiaria mutica was 13.15, 12.05, 9.36, 8.23 and 6.97 t/ha per year respectively. The average dry matter yield of L. leucocephala (ML1) was 7.75 t/ha per year. There was no significant difference between 6 weeks and 8 weeks cutting frequencies on dry matter yield of the grasses tested. The average dry matter yield of all grasses in the second year was significantly lower (7.75 t/ha) than that of the first year (11.97 t/ha).
