要約:Helicobacter pullorum is increasingly recognized as a foodborne pathogen in humans. A number of metho1s have been described for the detection of H. pullorum in chickens. This study was carried out to investigate the occurrence of H. pullorum in broiler chickens. A total of 50 live chickens were purchased from five farms, then slaughtered and their caeca were collected. The caecal faeces were obtained aseptically from the caeca of each chicken and subjected to a modified membrane filter method as described by Miller et aI., 2006 (method M) and a method which was a further modification to method M (method S). Biochemical tests were done on the suspected Helicobacter isolates and were confirmed using modified species-specific PCR. Thirty seven out of 50 (74%) chickens were positive for H.pullorum using method S while 22 (44%) positive using method M. The isolation method modified in this study gave a better recovery of H. pullorum from chicken caecal contents. This study indicates that broiler chickens may serve as reservoirs of H. pullorum and represent a health risk to humans.
