| Gaia: | Popular local fruits such as durians, rambutans, cempedak and mangosteen are native to Malaysia. They are more superior in fruit quality than their progenitors in the Malaysian forests; mainly through identification of superior genotypes and vegetatively propagating the selected individuals. The species already in cultivation account for only a small percentage of the diverse fruit-tree resources in our tropical rain forests. There still remain many more indigenous fruit species which can be brought into cultivation in a similar manner as the familiar fruit species. This paper highlights some of these fruit species |
