TY - GEN T1 - An assessment on suspended sediment load computation in the Sg Pangsun Watershed, Ulu Langat, Selangor, Malaysia A1 - Geoffery, JG LA - English PB - Universiti Putra Malaysia YR - 2014 UL - http://discoverylib.upm.edu.my/discovery/Record/oai:http:--agris.upm.edu.my:0-7551 AB - Sediment discharge rating curves are often used to estimate suspended sediment loads where the sampling program is insufficient to define the continuous record of sediment concentration. This study assessed the use of total suspended solids (TSS) analyzer in generating suspended sediment data from Sg. Pangsun watershed, a small headwater catchment located in Ulu Langat, Selangor. The suspended sediment data retrieved were regarded as actual values, and were then compared against data obtained from stream water samples. The suspended load computation derived from the conventional discharge rating curves, using uncorrected and bias-corrected, were compared with the actual load measured. The use of uncorrected rating curves based on all stages and stage-differentiated data were overestimated by 32.7% and 26.1%, respectively. Bias-corrected rating curves, however, gave far higher overestimation of loads with values of more than 100% compared to actual loads.
