| Summary: | A study on comparision of ectoparasite load between two Ratus sp population was carried out in Jalan Othman Wet Market in Petaling Jaya and Pudu Wet Market in Kuala Lumpur between Jun and August 2003. A total of 293 individual of ectoparasite were recovered from 14 Rattus rattus and 42 Rattus norvegicus. A total of 4 species of ectoparasite are Echinolaelaps echidninus (Mesostigmata: Echinilaelapidae), Antarctophthirus sp (Anoplura: Echinopthiridae), Hopplopleura acanthopus (Anoplura: Hoplopleuridae), and Xenopsvlla cheopis (Siphonaptera: Pulicidae). There are 4 species of ectoparasite collected from Pudu Wet Market but in Jalan Othman Wet Market there are only 3 species collected (Xenopsylla cheopsis are not recorded). Echinolaelaps echidninus are the highest infesting ectoparasite in both sites and the lowest infesting ectoparasite is Xenopsylla cheopsis. Rattus norvegicus are trapped in both location but the presence of Rattus rattus is not clearly illustrated in Pudu Wet Market (only 1 sample trapped). |
