Description
Summary:A study was conducted on seventy Kelantan ponies to determine their blood parameters in ponies of different body scores. The body scores ranged from 1 to 5. The parameters analysed were sodium, potassium, chloride, calcium, phosphate, glucose, cholesterol, total protein, albumin and globulin concentrations, albumin to globulin ratio and plasma protein concentrations. The study was conducted in Kota Bharu, Bachok, Pasir Mas, Pasir Puteh and Tumpat. Age, body score, management and feed type of the ponies contribute to the relationship between blood parameters and body scores in ponies. 47% of the ponies in this study had a good body scores. Plasma protein concentrations and serum biochemistry values were within the normal range. Albumin and chloride concentrations and albumin to globulin ratio were significantly (P<0.05) higher among ponies of high body scores. It was shown that there is a correlation between body scores and serum chloride and albumin concentrations and albumin to globulin ratio in Kelantan ponies.
