The objective of this study is to determine development of gonad in ikan kelah by using histological technique. Nine samples provided from fish anglers from Sungai Pahang, consisted of three age categories namely below six months, six months and twelve months. Morphometric measurements were used in order to differentiate sizes of fish to gonad according to their age. The smallest was 40g and the largest was 299.1g in body weight. Gonad consist of a paired of elongated light color organ laying parallel to the intestine and air bladder in the abdominal region. The gonad becomes white when in starts to differentiate. Histological technique was used to determine developmental stages and sex. The big size gonad showed developmental process was active and more than one developmental stages of cells gamets were found. Posterior and middle part of the gonad contained more developmental stages compared to the anterior. Ovarian developments started earlier than testes at the age of below six months but male achieved maturity stage earlier than female at the age below six months. Follicular and nuclear diameter in oocytes increased according to the age, 0.05μm and 0.02μm to 0.07μm and 0.03μm, respectively at stages II. Spermatid, secondary spermatocyte, primary spermatocyte and spermatogonia were present in twelve months of age with body weight 299.1g.
