Production of glass-ceramic from wastewater treatment (WWT) and soda-lime silica glass (SLS) /

The main purpose of this project is to produce glass-ceramic from various waste such as wastewater treatment (WWT) and soda-lime-silica (SLS) glass. This work will focus on the result of the measured data particularly on X-ray diffraction (XRD). However, other properties including shrinkage, density...

This work will focus on the result of the measured data particularly on X-ray diffraction (XRD). However, other properties including shrinkage, density and magnetic properties had also carried out. There are five samples which are WWT0.9SLS0.1, WWT0.8SLS0.2, WWT0.7SLS0.3, WWT0.6SLS0.4 and WWT0.5SLS0.5. The raw materials were WWT and SLS. They were wet mixed by using milling machine for 24 hours to get a thoroughly homogeneous mixture. After drying, they were weighted and moulded to a pellet and toroidal shape samples using a hydraulic pressing machine. All the samples were then sintered in carbolite furnace at various temperatures which vary from 600°C – 1000°C for 2 hours with the heating and cooling rate at 5°C/min. From the result of this work, it was found that WWT0.9SLS0.1 at 600°C gives the lowest density (2.2324gcm-3) and the lowest shrinkage percentage (2.31%). For XRD testing, the crystallinity detected at 600°C. For the magnetic measurement, all samples show the "non-magnetic" properties which are good for our purpose which is to produce tiles or bricks.
