Rubber (Hevea brasiliensis) - viability of RRIM 2000 seedling for root stock production /

RRIM 2000 series clone was the latest clone produced by RRIM. Information pertaining to RRIM 2000 clones is still lacking. The objective of the study is to evaluate the viability and performance of RRIM 2000 series clone and their selection for rootstock production. The aim of this project is to stu...

The objective of the study is to evaluate the viability and performance of RRIM 2000 series clone and their selection for rootstock production. The aim of this project is to study the new RRIM 2000 series clones of Hevea species and to provide new information about the latest RRIM 2000 series clones that will be recommended to the rubber industry. The study was carried out by Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four replications and treatment:- T1 (PB 260-control) T2 (RRIM 2001), T3 (RRIM 2002), T4 (RRIM 2003), T5 (RRIM 2007), T6 (RRIM 2008), T7 (RRIM 2009), T8 (RRIM 2016). Parameters evaluated were germination rates, rootstock height, girth circumference of stem, leaf dry weight, stem dry weight, root dry weight and total dry weight of 3 month old rootstocks. Data were analyzed with analysis of variances (ANOVA) using the Statistical Analysis System (SAS). Clones' means were compared by Duncan's Multiple Range Test (DMRT). Three clones (in order of priority) i.e RRIM 2002, RRIM 2016 and PB 260 can be recommended to the rubber nursery and industry. Although this clones was slightly low in germination rate, girth circumference and height, but it has better stem dry weight, root dry weight and total dry weight.
