Description
Summary:In this study, nineteen Dura x pisifera oil palm progenies planted at GHRC plantation were evaluated in a Randomized Complete Block Design with four replication. The objectives in this study were to determine yield and yield components performance of the Golden Hope D x P progenies, to estimate genetic variation and heretability and to study phenotypic correlation on the yield and yield components and bunch quality characters in the D x P population. The yield and bunch quality data were collected and analysed using the SAS programme. The statistical analysis, such as analysis of variance (ANOVA), variance components and correlations coefficient were used. Results showed the mean for FFB/ha/year, FFB/p/year, BNO and BWT were 20/ha/year, 134.76 kg/p/year, 23.1 bunches/p/year and 5.87 kg/p/year, respectively. Progeny 3130 showed a high value of FFB/p/year with 148.85/kg/year as the highest and most outstanding progeny. Meanwhile, progeny 3148 had the highest BNO value with 6.68 kg/p/year. Broad sense heritability estimates for most of the traits measured in these studies are low as their value below than 30%. This indicating that environment gives big influence to the traits. Correlation analysis revealed that fresh fruit bunch/p/year was positively correlated with bunch number and bunch weight. Progeny 3142 identified as the best genotype to develop high oil yield.
