Effect of photoperiod on the growth performance of tinfoil barb (Barbonymus schwanenfeldii) /

This study was aimed to quantify the growth performance of tinfoil barb at three different levels of photoperiod; complete lightness (24hr-Lightness: 0-Darkness) partial lightness and darkness, (12L: 12D) and complete darkness (0L: 24D). Each photoperiod treatment consisted of four replications of a...

Each photoperiod treatment consisted of four replications of aquarium tanks where they were randomly arranged in a tandem sequence in the laboratory. A total of 240 tinfoil barb juveniles with a mean weight of 1.787 g were randomly and equally allocated to the treatment tanks. Fish were fed with the commercial starter diet twice a day between 0600 and 1800 hours for 86 days. Growth performance, feed efficiency and fish body composition were evaluated. There were no significant differences among the photoperiod treatments for all rearing parameters. The study concluded that tinfoil barb juvenile were able to tolerate to a wide range of photoperiods.
