Sammanfattning:Abstract Background: Human beings operate a variety of equipments using their hands during working and also to carry out routine activities. The matching between human anthropometric dimensions and equipment dimensions is known to be a important factor to determine the productivity, degree of comfortable and health status of work forces. Therefore, it is necessary to collect data on hand anthropometry of the Malay adult population for future reference in various industries. Aim: To study the hand anthropometric dimensions of Malay staffs and undergraduate students in FPSK, UPM. Methodology: This study is a cross sectional study. A total of 24 hand dimensions of a total of 198 Malay undergraduate students and staffs of FPSK, UPM selected by simple random sampling, were measured for this study. Data was analysed using IBM SPSS Statistic version 20 for Windows. Results: All the differences in hand dimensions between male and female are statistically significant except for the length from second joint to root of digit 5 (p=0.392). Significant correlations exist between hand dimensions measured (at the 5% level of significance) with various strength ranging from moderate to strong. Weight has a generally weak to moderate significant correlation with hand dimensions. Conclusion: The findings indicate significant associations exist between gender and all the hand anthropometric measurements except for length of second joint to root of digit. There are significant positive correlations between height and hand dimensions. Correlations between weight and hand dimensions is generally weak to moderate. Keywords: hand anthropometry, Malay, gender, height, weight
