O. stamineus plants were grown at two planting distances (plant spacing 30 cm and 45 cm with a constant row width, 1.50 m) as the main plot and with mulching (silver shine plastic) vs without mulching as subplots to evaluate the interaction effects of planting distance × mulching on plant height, plant biomass, photosynthetic rate, number of branch, canopy width, and phytochemical contents (TPC, TFC) with the antioxidant activity. TPC and TFC were determined using the Folin-Ciocalteu method and aluminum chloride colorimetric assay, respectively. While, the antioxidant activity was determined through the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl free radical scavenging activity. The interaction between planting distance and mulching showed no significant effect on most of the physical growth, phytochemical content and antioxidant activity. However, a significant interaction effect of planting distance and mulching was only recorded for the chlorophyll content. The narrow planting distance (plant spacing 30 cm, 150 cm row width) and with mulching treatments produced plants with chlorophyll content significantly higher compared to other combination of treatments. Thus, the recommended condition for optimum growth of O. stamineus is planting distance 30 cm between plant x 150 cm between row with the application of mulching.
