Summary:Introduction: Positive mental health is characterized as a blend of emotional prosperity and of being completely utilitarian. It is important to have positive mental health as it is proven to secure protection against .mental health problems. There has been reports that mental health issues are on the rise among university students. However, research investigating the prevalence and the factors associated with positive mental health are still inadequate compared to the number of research done on mental disorders. Therefore, the objective of this study is to evaluate the association between numerous socio-demographic, psychosocial and lifestyle £actors with positive mental health among fust year students in Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UPM. Methods: This cross-sectional study utilises a questionnaire consisting of 4 sections, which are (Section A: Socio-demographic, psychosocial and lifestyle factors of respondents, Section B: positive mental health instrument from Singapore that can be used in a multiracial country, Section C: International Physical Activity Question (IPAQ) and Section D: Body Shape Questionnaire (BSQ) ). The sample size involved 265 first year students of Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UPM. Spearman correlation, Mann Whitney U test and Kruskal-Wallis test were performed to assess the associations between the potential indicators regarding socio-demographic, psychosocial and lifestyle and positive mental health. Results: The positive mental health score for the first year students is 4.64, which is slightly high. There is no significant association between the socio-demographic, psychosocial and lifestyle and positive mental health. Conclusion: This research gives the first overview on the prevalence and factors of positive mental health among fust year students in Faculty of Medicine and Health Science, UPM. All the socio-demographic, psychosocial and lifestyle factors studied are not the factors of positive mental health among the first year students in Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, UPM.
