Sumario:Epoxidation of methyl ester of Jatropha curcas seed oil (JCO) was carried out at different temperature using peroxformic acid prepared in situ by reacting hydrogen peroxide with formic acid in the presence of toluene. The chemical properties of methyl ester JCO was investigated. The rate constant and activation energy of in situ epoxidation was found to obey pseudo first order of 0.43 hr-1 to 0.89 hr-1 and 19.103 KJ.mol-1 respectively. The thermodynamic parameter such as entropy, enthalpy, and free energy of activation energy were found to be 3.90 kcaV mol, -77.80 caV mol and 29.807 kcaV mol respectively. These thermodynamic parameters of in situ epoxidation methyl ester Jatropha curcas seed oil showed that it is a non spontaneous reaction.
