Περίληψη:Although food represented an essential need in our daily life, the performance of food industries in Malaysia was discouraging over the last few years. The food industries were plagued with a number of problems. As import substitution possibilities became limited, the potentials for the development of the food industries appeared limited. However, this is not the case. There remained other investment opportunities for many other potential food products particularly when these products were based on local raw materials. Such developments were achieved when the food industries and the relevant agencies took up the challenge to make the food industries a success. The paper outlined the current status of the food industries and attempted further to link the food industries to the agricultural production sectors. The problems of the industries were discussed and possible solutions were being suggested
