Description
Summary:Smilax myosotiflora, from the family Smilacaceae has been used in traditional medicine for venereal disease. The plant also has a reputation as an aphrodisiac. Preliminary results showed that these extracs have antibacterial activities. The work in progress on the determination of chemical constituents from the petroleum ether, ethyl acetate and methanol extracts will be reported in this paper. Bioassay of extracts have been tested for toxicity by using the Brine shrimp lethality. The results show that the extracts were relatively non-toxic to brine shrimps (LC50acute=2900-4800 ppm, LC50acuteK2Cr2O7~400 ppm).
