Antimicrobial activities and major monoterpene components of Xylopia malayana leaf oil
The antimicrobial activities of Xylapia malayana leaves (Annonaceae) and its related major monoterpene compounds: b-pinene, a-pinene, terpinen-4-ol and linalool were investigated using the Single Concentration Test (SCT) and Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) against eleven microorganisms. Summary: | The antimicrobial activities of Xylapia malayana leaves (Annonaceae) and its related major monoterpene compounds: b-pinene, a-pinene, terpinen-4-ol and linalool were investigated using the Single Concentration Test (SCT) and Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) against eleven microorganisms. These microorganisms included Methicillin Resistance Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), gram positive and negative bacteria, and fungi. The oils showed inhibitory activity against all microorganisms tested except for gram negative bacteria. The overall rating for antimicrobial activities of X. malayana components was a-pinene > terpinen-4-ol > linalool > b-pinene. |
