Description
Summary:Two experiments were carried out to determine the effect of various durations of periodic feeding during the cooler periods of the day on broiler performance. Birds restricted to 3 hr of feeding per day were not able to consume their daily requirement of feed for growth. On periodic feeding schedules of 4,5 or 6 hr per day, broilers consumed significantly less feed (P0.05) than those on 12 hr feeding (control) without adverse effects on the body weight. A trend of improved feed conversion efficiency was observed with the periodic feeders compared to the control birds. It is concluded that periodic feeding during the cooler periods of the day holds promise for the improvement of production efficiency of broilers in Malaysia
