| Summary: | Melalap Scientific Expedition was jointly organized by Universiti Malaysia Sabah, Japanese International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Sabah Parks and Wildlife Department. This expedition was participated by Agricultural Department, Department of Mineral & Geosciences and other local university, Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) and Kolej Universiti Sains & Teknologi Malaysia (KUSTEM). Research fields were divided into six main categories i.e. Botany, Zoology, Entomology, Mineral Diversity, Geology and Sociology and Anthropology. The one-week research expedition was included forest area inside the Sabah Park in Melalap and Tenom sub-station. Each participant was expected to do research base on their interest and expertise. At night, the result of the researches were presented by the representative of the group research. In the session, participants were encourage to deliver comment, opinion and suggestio
ns for future research at the forest as well as to assess the true potential of the area to be developed, for example as a tourism attraction. |
